I had the privilege of hosting a community ladies bible study in my home on Saturday. It was a blessing to sit at the feet of a beloved "older" woman: Sister Helen Taylor. She shared about our role as women from the beginning in Genesis and wove the gospel throughout her talk. Our priorities should be 1. The Lord 2. Honoring our husbands 3.Our Children 4. Our Homes and serving others. She led us through the passage in Genesis 3 and the fall of Adam and Eve and the effects of living in a fallen world and living under the curse. She read through Proverbs 31 and highlighted the virtues of the excellent woman. Before she closed, she summed up with the hope we have through Jesus Christ. Although we live in a fallen world, we no longer have to live under the curse and bondage of sin--made available to us in the New Covenant through Jesus Christ.
"For God sent not his Son into the wold to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. " John 3:17
"Jesus saith unto him, 'I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.'" John 14:6
Mrs. Taylor then gave her testimony of accepting Jesus Christ into her heart at the age of 11 and the path of her life since then. After raising her six children, she worked at a crisis pregnancy center, ministered to prostitutes, worked at a half-way home, shared(and is still sharing) the gospel in prisons, and most recently runs a food pantry for local families in need. This past year the mission has supplied nearly 1000 different families with food for their families. Mrs. Taylor seeks not just to give them physical nourishment, but offers spiritual "food" as well--most evidently "offered" by the Holy Spirit flowing though her hands, heart, and words. The 87 years Mrs. Taylor has lived on this earth has been one of serving Jesus...She is one of the rare women in my life that typlifies what a truly virtuous and beautiful woman is. I, as well as the 20 ladies in my home on Saturday, got a glimpse of "true religion", authentic biblical womanhood, and experienced something of Christ, by taking the time to sit at the feet of this dear lady. She is a humble woman who gives all the glory to the Lord, but I know that the fruit of her hands, her husband, her children, and her Lord, will praise her in the gates.
