Mozart and Babies

I was chatting w/ a friend who casually mentioned that her 7 month old baby is in kindermusic. She was telling me how much her baby loves the classes and the music. She said her response to music is so amazing that her baby will go from crying to smiling to laughing!! Amazing!

So, I dug out my book, "The Mozart Effect for Children" and am re-reading it. Did you know:

~Music can calm or stimulate the movement and heart rate of a baby in the womb.
~Premature infants who listen to classical music in their intensive care units gain more weight, leave the hospital earlier, and have a better chance of survival.
~Young children who receive regular music training demonstrate better motor skills, math ability, and reading performance than those who don't.
~High school students who sing or play an instrument score up to 52 pts. highter on SAT tests.
~Adult musicians' brains generally exhibit more EEG (brainwave) coherence than those of nonmusicians--and even differ anatomically in cases when the musicians began their training before age seven

Over the past few decades scientists have been studying what babies can hear, respond to and learn from sound while still in the womb. We now know that:
*The ear is the first sense organ to develop in the womb
*The auditory system becomes functional 3-4 mo. before birth
*The unborn baby is capable of learning before birth at a level that can affect her post birth behavior.

The information in this book is so interesting! I'll post some more as I read along~

On another note, William is 14 weeks old today! Just yesterday he rolled over for the first time!

That sounds like an intersting book. We have music on all the time. Miles LOVES music and I think he will be have a bent towards music. He makes up songs and sings all the time.
I remember when I was pregnant with him, he'd be so active in church during the music. Luke was totally different. Amazing huh?
Cute pictures. I have that same outfit ;-)
